Gear return checklist

One of the benefits of being part of MUOC is the ability to hire outdoor gear for club trips or for your own adventures. The golden rule of gear rental is: treat the club gear as if it is your own. We expect all gear to be returned dry and clean! Below is a checklist for how we expect the gear to be returned. The blockhouse officers will be using this very checklist to determine if you get your deposit back. Be sure to check out our gear care tips.

There are two cases in which we will keep your deposit:

  • You have tried to return wet or dirty gear – we will send you back to dry or clean the gear, and require that you return it at next opening blockhouse opening. You may be charged for additional weeks of gear hire while it has not been returned in acceptable condition.
  • If you return gear damaged or with parts missing, we will hold onto your deposit until the we can determine whether damage was caused by improper care, or normal wear and tear. The gear is set aside in the blockhouse for inspection by a senior committee member to determine which case it is and notify you.
    • If damage is deemed as normal wear and tear, we’ll arrange to return your deposit.
    • If damage is deemed as carelessness on your behalf, we will keep your deposit to cover the costs for repair.
